Kevin and Jessi Kohrell make a great team, in more ways than one. They are happily married, own a sand toy fabrication company, and, most recently, have started off-road racing together. Their fabrication company, Custom Creations, produces performance sand cars and ATVs, which also includes Side X Sides. They just finished their first race Side X Side, a Kawasaki Teryx which Jessi used to win the M.O.R.E. Powder Puff Race for the Cure, a charity event to raise money for breast cancer research. It was Jessi’s first race and she walked away with a first-place win. Not too shabby!
Custom Creations specializes in aftermarket upgrades including long-travel, cages, motor work, bumpers, light bars, and the like. They do all their own in-house fabrication and offer full maintenance and repair service on most makes and models of Side X Sides and ATVs. They recognize that each customer has a budget to consider and caters to those needs, guiding them in the direction that will give the customer the most bang for their buck. Above all, they want their customers to ride safely and have a great time. For the SXSA Battle of the Builders, Custom Creations opted to stay true to the brand name, giving their unit a Kawasaki green paint scheme. The custom paint job was done by Starside Designs and the custom cage and bumpers were colored to match perfectly by B&B Powdercoating. A Tribal Whips LED green lighted whip gives the Teryx a little bit of nighttime flash. A 3-light light bar by Baja Designs and a 3-panel billet wink mirror by Production Engineering help the driver see and be seen out in the dirt. The whole look is finished with 14×6 ITP black and machined rims wrapped with Goodyear MTR tires. Interior luxuries include a carbon fiber-dipped dash and center console by K2 Concepts. When it was all said and done, the crew at Custom Creations removed the stock A-arms, axles, cage, seats, wheels, tires, CDI box, bumper, and muffler. They replaced those items and then some. According to Kevin, the Teryx was meant to have aftermarket parts; everything lines up and goes on smoothly. Their build took only two days for assembly and polishing, so it sounds like he may be right. Next time, he wants to get in to play around with the motor… |
