9:57 Mike L:  Can’t wait for John Anderson tonight – should be AWESOME! http://www.johnanderson.com/
10:27 Mike L:  We had to have a pull-off to determine the sled pull winner…that’s great.
10:30 Mike L:  Doing a little bit of racecourse redesign. The section after the cars was tough and had a few too many holes for stock UTVs and quads. A little dirt should do the trick.

1:50 Mike L:  Mud bog and the GBC Ladies Dash For Cash is complete. ATVs and SXSs in the slop. We followed that up with three (yes three) heats of ladies in the mud. First three heat finishers moved on to the finals. Then those ladies swam through the muck for the top prize (somewhere around $1,300 give or take a nickel). GBC Motorsports’ Randy Tsai held the money and ended up a muddy mess himself. Crazy!
2:15 Mike L:  More free shirts and stickers going out – the crowd loves it. Well, at least until I run out in front of them. Sorry people!
2:17 Mike L:  The mud bog was great. Here are a few images of what you missed.

2:32 Mike L:  I wonder if Randy Tsai from GBC Motorsports knew if he was going to get a muddy hug? Good thing he’s a good sport. He said, “Man, I wore the wrong outfit for this.” Jesi, our winner, made sure he got a little dirty.

7:35 Mike L:  Sunday was a busy day, but oh so good. The racing was crazy.
7:37 Mike L:  We had a late Saturday night listening to John Anderson and then tearing down the equipment. After that we set up the remainder of the race track. John Anderson is a soild performer.

7:40 Mike L:  ATV racing got started at around 8 a.m. We had a mix of utility and sport quads. A sport quad racer won – he ran a great race and won by two laps.

7:47 Mike L:  JESI STRACHAM took third and put in a VERY impressive ride.
7:47

7:48 Mike L:  The course was fairly muddy thanks to our own water sections as well a drizzly morning. After the ride, the only clean part on our winner’s ATV was this Pro Armor sticker (perfect!)

7:50 Mike L:  The UTV class grew from five to more a dozen. It all started with a mandatory rider’s meeting.

7:58 Mike L:  The track was nasty both in the woods and in our obstacle course. A lot of racers said they enjoyed the small jump coming up to the finish line. Most said the upper section (with rocks, logs, cars and tires) was not fun.
8:21 Mike L:  The rock section was nasty for everyone, but some drivers found the best line and made it look easy.

8:22 Mike L:  The tires looked like trouble, but caused no harm for the SXSs.

Championship Mud Racing – this weekend

The popularity of competitive mud racing is growing at an enormous pace.  In 2006, leaders in the ATV industry began discussions of having a unified set of competition rules that would allow for some uniformity among competitions around the country.  This set of rules gave birth to the need for organization among event promoters and the desire for more media attention among competitors.  Unification would allow for a true points system that could ultimately lead to a true National Championship, adding national value to what was once a backyard hobby among sportsmen around the country.  The 2009 CMR schedule includes eight competition dates with points awarded throughout the season in several different competition classes for ATV and SxS Mud Racing.

Competitions will include Mud Bog and Mudda-Cross Competitions with points series for each competition in classes ranging from 0-499 cc to a Super-Modified class which will allow any size ATV in competition.

One of two federal commissioners votes to grant a 1-year stay in enforcing ban on sale of youth-size ATVs

Youth-size 4-wheelers and dirt bikes have not returned to showroom floors, but the head of the Consumer Product Safety Commission said they should, at least for a year.

Legislation that took effect in February to regulate lead levels in children’s products meant retailers stopped sales of all-terrain vehicles for children 12 and younger. Manufacturers and industry associations requested an exemption from the law.
